I met my other conversation partner SuYeol right after I met Bayasgalan.(Monday 7 to 8) SuYeol is from Korea who is majoring in computer engineering in Korea. We were so surprised when we found out that we were conversation partners because we didn't expect to have each others as conversation partners! Since we both speak Korean, we decided to speak English when we meet as conversation partners.
We talked about our friends, family and random things. And I caught his mistakes. It was:
I speak English at CIES.
I was trying to explain him the difference between
I speak English in CIES
I study English at CIES
I was pretty confident because I have studied these with Mr.Kim!!!
However, since I was weel understood about the difference between the two, it was hard for me to explain it clearly in English. I tried to explain it in Korean, but still, I wasn't able to. Here, I realized the difference between being a English teacher and being a English student. Just like I have learn in class, I told him I would study and give him answer later.
Then we went to the bookstore in Tallahassee mall together to buy some English books for studying, but we didn't buy any books there. We went to a shoes store and looked around. I made him ask many questions to the salesman because he said he was not comfortable with asking questions to salespeople. We are going to do something like this activities so that he feels comfortable with ordering food and asking questions.
I remember going over the difference between "in" and "at" when I tutored him. I guess I could have explained the difference by saying, for example, that "I work at the police station" is a correct sentence but "I work in the police station" is usually not correct.
