DJ TP#5
Yesterday I met with Fares. He met up with me and Mahdi to see "pacific rim." After the movie was over, he asked me a few questions about the meaning of words, including "involved", "protect" and "include." I am finding that it is much harder to define a word than it is to use it in an example. I think this is because 1, you want to use the word in it's own definition, and 2, even if you dont use the word, you may use other words that they dont understand. For example, when I tried to define "protect" I used the word "defend, which was another one he didnt understand.
After the movie, I wanted to check on the homework I had given Fares, but he did do it! Mahdi knew this ahead of time and was kidding with Fares by asking him repeatedly "Yes did you do it, did you do it?". Since I couldn't go over his homework, I decided to just do some dictation work, having Fares write down what I was saying. Then I asked him to to write a brief description of the movie we watched. It was hard for him, because he didn't know words for things like "giant robot" or "monster", so he wrote these words in Arabic and then we filled them in afterwards.
I told him I really wanted him to do the writing assignment for next time, which is to write an essay describing how to make his favorite dish(he likes to cook.) Hopefully he will bring it next time.
