Matthew CP #3
I met Fares on Monday night where he requested that we meet, at the Starbucks on Tennessee street. I asked him if he liked coffee, but he said no so I don't know why he picked the Starbucks but it ended up having a nice atmosphere to have a chat in anyway. Unlike my other conversations, this one became political quite quickly as we began discuss the current political upheaval in Egypt and how it could affect the country's future as well as those of the countries around it. We were able to communicate on this topic very easily except for when I mentioned the word "coup". He had me type the word out onto his phone under a list of other words that he had encountered so he could see how it was spelled. I explained that the difference in the spelling and the pronunciation was because the word was originally French, but was often used in English. "Oh, just like this word!" he said and pointed to the word "fiance" that was higher up on the list. It appeared that he was learning quickly. We also had a very lively discussion of food, especially about his favorite food from Kuwait, Kabsa.

I think it's really great that you were talking about politics in Egypt with someone from the ME. The news we hear about this area tends to be biased or misinformed. Also, my CP from Kuwait talked to me about Kabsa as well. It must be good stuff! :)
