We talked quite a bit about foods and tried to compare and contrast our favorite cuisines. Maria brought her tablet and pulled up many pictures of her home town and the local cuisine. I told her quite a bit about a friend I have from Brazil and we talked a bit about her region particularly. She told me a lot about a famous poet from her home town and showed me a few of his poems though I could only barely understand them.
She also told me a lot about her family and informed me that she is married. We spoke a little about our siblings and general family information. She was very polite and warm and even told me that if I were to ever come to Brazil that I was welcome in her home. She has only been in Florida for about two weeks and feels like she is learning so much.
Maria seems to be having the same problem that many other students have come across. She seems not to like the food at Swannee that much, which is not of great quality. I explained to her that most FSU students try not to eat there and told her about a few other local places to eat. I can't imagine going from her delicious Brazilian cuisine to the food they serve at Swuannee.
After we spoke for a while I offered to drive her home before my TEFL class started. She told me she lived in Ragans, which I mistook for Rodgers. As soon as I pulled up to the wrong dorm I realized my mistake and we ended up driving around for a while trying to find the right place. It didn't take too long but eventually we found Ragans. We talked a little bit and might go to mass sometime soon since we are both Catholic and she has never been to the Catholic church close to campus.
