DJ TP#2

First off, if you are writing from your phone, you may need select "html" on the blogger options. Today I met with Abdullah. We had some trouble meeting but finally did. I gave him the same diagnostic quiz that I gave Fares. He did similarly well, only missing the word "theory". We talked about religion and how in America we have what is called "practicing" Christians and just normal Christians. He told me when he first came to America he was amazed by how many religions there were, and he seemed a little confused when I told him I didn't have a faith. He explained to me that he was fasting from sun up to sundown, but then proceeded to smoke a cigarette and said something about it being an exception. He wants to focus mainly on his writing, and unlike Fares is not interested in slang, which is okay. I told him to make an outline for an essay about his favorite hobby, which we will write tomorrow when I meet him again. He wants to meet twice a week, so I think I will be fine in regards to tutoring sessions (I am also meeting a third student tomorrow, Kwang) overall it was a good time, I love exchanging ideas about our cultures, it makes me think about mine differently. By the end of the lesson, we had decided to meet again tomorrow. Instead of having him write an outline for homework, I told him to just think about the essay. He seemed pretty set on having me help him write the essay, which is fine. If he wants my help then he probably doesn't feel comfortable doing it on his own. So tomorrow we will write the essay together. I wil review the outline, 5 paragraph style etc. Then for home work, he will have a week to correct any spelling and grammatical errors, which i won't point out.
