The
day right after our lunch, we scheduled a meeting at the leach gym. We decided to work on upper body which
included chest, traps, lats, bicep, tricep and shoulders. Today I decided to teach him some of the
slang that he had begged to learn. As we
were doing our first workout, I said to him, “let’s hit it!” He looked somewhat confused and then looked
to his left and right then asked me what we were going to hit. I carefully explained to him that it was a
figure of speech, an expression for saying “let’s go, or let’s get the job
done.” He quickly caught on and then we
began our workout. After our first
regiment, we gradually moved on to our next routine and then he said, “let’s
hit it!”
This
was a good sign, for me, to give him some more slang or colloquial phrases. I then taught him the phrases, “do you even
lift?” It is a term used to demean,
jeer, or poke fun at someone in the gym.
It can be used sarcastically or to poke fun at a friend. I told him that he should use it with a
friend because he may start a fight if he said that to someone else. He caught on and while we were doing lat pull
downs, he asked me during my set, “do you even lift?” I laughed hysterically and then I taught him
the phrase, “you mad bro?” That is used
when you do something and it annoys someone else or gets them over the edge for
something that is very miniscule. After
that we finished up our workout and then scheduled to meet the next day.
I
felt like that gym session was a very beneficial one because we got to talk to
some strangers and my TP also got to learn some fun colloquial as well.
