G3 Reading - Felicia

Agenda
1) Bell ringer: in groups, summarize the main points from the article "shocking education"
2) Reading: group discussion
3) pop quiz- writing short journals

Since she had students do group work(it was a week-classroom hour class) and they were having pop quiz, I wasn't really able to observe her teaching much; however, she gave me a lot of tips while she was watching the students working on their group work and quiz. She also emphasis on setting a classroom goal. Her goal in that class was to have students think critically and think deeper.

Even though the activities were all group works, students were still very interactive with each other. They kept asking Felicia many questions about the topic, and vice versa. Even they were taking the pop quiz, they were allowed answer questions and discuss with other students. I thought it was very odd to let them ask questions and let them talk to with each other while they were taking quiz at first, but later, I thought she wasn't wrong at all(I was) because her goal for the class was to have students think critically, so it would be helpful for students to share ideas about the same topic. Besides, it was not a multiple choice exams or something that they should give answers. It was open questions that students must think harder to answer or write about it.

It was such a great time to observe her class(even though there were not much things to observe..) because I leaned something from her experiences. And I was so thankful that I learned something new: think outside the box.
