Pak CO#2

For the second classroom observation, I went to see Angel Rios's speaking class.  Unfortunately, Angel was sick and was not able to teach.  I had the pleasure of observing Jan's teaching and saw a great class!  She had all and every aspect of a great TEFL instructor and she was very thorough and patient with the students.

Since she was filling in for a class, the class was based more on review and helped the students strengthen and solidified their knowledge.

Jan wrote the classroom objectives on the board for the students to see, however, the room was rather large and a good amount of students sat in the back so I am not quite sure if they even could see the objectives.

The class worked on their books and practiced with one another with basic English conversation topics.  There were many conversation topics ranging from asking about one's family to preferences in hobbies and extracurricular activities.

The class contained intermediate level students so there was not a lot of schema building, but I felt like the class was very quiet for a speaking class.  I felt that a lot of the students were still very shy because when assigned to work in pairs, they would slightly mumble what they had to do and did not sound very confident in speaking.

Even though it wasn't her class, Jan was very patient and helpful to the class. While the students worked in their workbooks an practiced their speaking with one another, she would help each student with the grammar and pronunciation.  A very impromptu class given by Jan, but it was very professional and had quality.
