Lauren TP#11

Yesterday Toshie and I met up again. Last time we had met up she asked if it was okay if she brought a friend. I told I would be more than happy for her to come. Toshie's friend told me that she was taking the  TOEFL soon and needed some help.

While I helped the friend Toshie listened to an audio clip that was followed by a set of questions. Toshie's friend and I went over some practice for about half of the session. I didn't really know what to expect of the friend but she came very well prepared. We went over papers of practice work, mostly on directions. I mainly introduced american phrases such as:
Take a left when you hit Main Street
Head South East on Monroe Street
Make a right then you see the bakery

I didn't realize that the TOEFL would require the knowledge of such vocabulary. We went over three or four maps and practiced giving directions for a while. Next, she asked me to tell her some weather phrases such as:
It's going to hail
It's drizziling outside
It's raining cats and dogs
A blizzard is coming
Last night there was a snow storm.

I found myself having a hard time creating a range of phrases. I tried to giver her phrases that seemed very natural. These phrases could be used on the TOEFL for the weather questions.

After some practice we joined Toshie. At this point she had already heard the audio clip two or three times. The clip was a lecture from and archaeology class. This lecture was a little more confusing for Toshie because of all of the tribal names. She got most of the questions right but needed help figuring the rest out. Toshie asked if I minded her friend's presence and of course I didn't. I think she will come and join us again and as long as it is no problem with Toshie it is no problem with me.
