I met with Daehwan
for tutoring at Strozier Library on Monday, August 12th . He needed
more assistance with his speaking exam preparation. He needed me to edit his
answers for his mock exam. For each response, I would make suggestions on how
to improve his responses. Sometimes he needed help with context, other times he
needed help with syntax and word usage. One example that we both found funny
involved the use of the word “clock” Somehow through the use of his
Korean-English dictionary, he ended up writing “duck”. My guess is that the
hangul, when read, sounded like “dock”, a place to charge and display your
smartphone and the time, but in the end, the word “duck” made more sense...
We both had
a hearty laugh out of the situation and after replacing all the “ducks” with “clocks”,
his final answer sounded perfect of the exam.
