For this last classroom observation, I observed Cadence
Walters’ listening comprehension class.
She was very organized and showed a lot of energy in her teaching.
She first started with a brief introduction to what she will
be going over for the class and wrote it on the board. Once she made the introduction, she had her
class break off into two teams and had the two teams perform a dictation of
what she said. She would say simple
sentences that involved the present and past tense while reviewing, what
appeared to be, vocabulary learned from their previous class.
She had the two teams stand in line and each had to run to
the board to write out what she said and the team that reached 10 points won
the game. The students were very
engaged, excited and were having fun!
The next activity was very similar to the last, however, Cadence had the
students write out about 10 sentences in response to prompts given to them on
the board. The answers would be in
present, past, and future tenses and at the end of the activity, she corrected
their mistakes and gave them very positive and helpful feedback.
The last activity involved another dictation, but it
involved the students listening to a short video clip from a romantic
comedy. She was very patient in having
the students listen and comprehend the “dialogue” in the clip and the students
were also very engaged and found the clip very entertaining.
Lastly, she ended the class giving her students some
homework. She assigned them to perform a
dictation of their own on a movie clip of their choice and dismissed them.
This was an amazing class with lots of energy and I saw that
the students truly enjoyed learning.
