Pak TP#5

Last Monday, I met with my tutee.  I originally wanted to ask him how his examinations went and I also wanted to ask him where he thought he could have improve in regards to his performance on his test.  I had to alter this intention, however, because before I could mention my intentions, he stated that he wanted to fly back to Kuwait.  I was very surprised and somewhat amused at the same time because my conversation partner also went back to Kuwait along with a lot of other Kuwaiti friends.

I asked him why he wanted to go back and I told me that he misses his parents and his friends.  This was a very prevalent reason.  He also mentioned that it will be easier for him to fast because in Kuwait the sun sets around 6:45 as opposed to 8:45 here in Tallahassee.  He also said that it will be easier and more meaningful to practice Ramadan there because the whole country practices it.

We talked about what he plans to do in Kuwait and told me the same thing as my conversation partner; spend time with family and friends.  I am seeing a strong correllation in the core values in the Kuwaiti culture.  It is very inspiring and warm as opposed to the capitalist driven industry mindset here in the United States.

We then researched on the cheapest airfare and I saved the link for him to purchase his ticket.  We talked for a while longer and then I left.

  1. Pak,
It says something, that your tutee felt comfortable enough with you to share his feelings. I am certain he learned something valuable about English by seeking out inexpensive plane tickets! Good job. By the way, how much is a flight to Kuwait?
