Some weeks ago, I attended Mrs. Kim’s reading and
comprehension classes. It was very eye
opening and intriguing to see our instructor in action. She displayed all the fundamentals and
qualities of quality teaching in her lesson.
First, she wrote her schedule clearly on the board and
introduced me to the class. Then she
implemented a lot of pair reading, comprehension checks by regularly asking
questions, and she also had her students ask one another comprehension
questions as well.
The class she taught was very advanced and the students
could read complex sentences with different tense and grammar. I noticed that she not need to emphasize a
lot on the schema building and the lowering of the affective filter because of
the high level of comprehension and skills each of her students possessed. Mrs. Kim also had her students work in a
workbook so that they had an in class opportunity to practice what they have
been learning about. I learned a great
deal of professionalism, body language, and an overall teacher presentation and
representation through observing Mrs. Kim.
