TP #12
Abdul
I met Abdul for our last tutoring session. I made him
another quiz for phrasal verbs. I used many of the same questions as the last
one picking the ones he got wrong last time and then adding some new ones. This
was helpful for him because he only missed 2 of the ones he got wrong last time.
As for the new ones, he could always get it if I gave him the first word of the
phrase. His problem is definitely productive rather than receptive. I really
should have started doing the quiz a long time ago because it really
re-enforces what we went over and I think it made some of them stick better.
Next, we continued down the long list of phrasal verbs. There
was only one short set left and we were able to finish because he knew many of
them. One thing I taught him was the difference between wake up and get up. He
said that he got up at 8:30 but continued sleeping until 10. I told him that
unless he physically got out of bed and then got back in bed, you would say that
you woke up. Today we finished not
just that list, but the whole page of them! I think that we must have been
going at the perfect pace because there was a long page of phrasal verbs and we
did them all! Abdul thanked me and told me that he learned a lot and I hope he
did.
