Sally
Today was my last session tutoring Sally. As usual we
started off with a Mad Lib. This one was a back-to-school theme. Next we
started a worksheet that was riddles based on homophones. These were really great
because the definition of at least one of the words was in the riddle. For
example, how is your homework the same and the water on the front lawn in the
morning? Well, they are both due (do, dew). She did not know the word dew but
because the definition is in the riddle she knows it now! There were 15 riddles
and I think they were challenging enough but she was still able to get some
like: How do you catch a fairy? You grab it by the tail (tale.)
Last, I had a list of 6th grade level spelling
words. I used my cut outs of all of the letters and would call out a word and
she would spell it with the cards. I think this was more fun than just writing
the word down. She did a great job! She only had trouble with the word echoes but with a little prompting (does
this look right? What does this need here?) She was able to get it quickly.
Overall, she was a great tutee and I am so glad that was I able to teach her
this session!
