Matthew CP #4

I met with Sultan right before class on Thursday, the day we had scheduled. As always, I asked him how his classes were going, as well as how life was going in general. I offered him tea, but he declined and explained that he was fasting for Ramadan. I had heard of Ramadan before, but I was curious about it so we spent most of our conversation discussing what Ramadan meant. I asked him many questions about what rules you were supposed to follow and what people generally did during the holiday and he seemed very eager to answer. It was very interesting and educational for me because I had never had an opportunity before to discuss this subject with someone who actually participated in it. He was able to provide many insights that I would never have had from just reading about it.

  1. Cool Matthew, that you learned about Ramadan! Anything quick tidbits you can share about its meaning? Or is it too complex to explain quickly? I too have run into the "I am fasting" issue quite a bit this last week. Jarrah (my tutee), explained that the fasting is the easy part, IF there is time to pray and rest. However, having to attend classes during the "holiday" is proving difficult for many of them.
