Lila TP#2

This past Friday afternoon, I visited with the entire Seo family at the Leon County Downtown Library. Mr. Seo brought his son Jason for tutoring along with his wife and daughter. We greeted each other and took ourselves to a table in the children's section of the library. I started by simply getting to know Jason and afterward, Jason selected a book to read aloud. He chose a Korean culture picture book. On each page I asked him to read the passage and elaborate on the photographs. Some pages had pictures of food or different types of flowers and Jason would describe to me the items in the book. He also explained to me, in English, the colors of the hanbok in the photos and also the traditional Korean dishes served during chuseok. Jason was a very bright and passionate child who was excited to share his knowledge of his home country. In our session, I noticed that he had and issue with pronouncing the "ed" sound but it seemed like his vocabulary was adequate. There were times that I had to correct his repeated error in pluralizing certain nouns, but overall Jason performed very well. I'm looking forward to working again with such a bright young boy.

  1. Sounds like you did a great job keeping him engaged. I saw y'all in the library and he was so young! Maybe for next time you could come up with some kind of game or project. Young students usually like having something that they can take home to show their parents. :)
