Talal

For this meeting I decided to go for a drive out to Bradley’s Country Store. I used to go there often and it is absolutely beautiful out there. Today was just too gorgeous for us to sit inside somewhere! It’s a long drive so had lots of time to talk in the car. He said that his dad went Orlando last weekend so he was able to go down there and visit him. I can imagine how nice that would be being so far from home for so long.
He wanted my help with a project he has to do tomorrow to compare the culture of Kuwait to America. He wants to talk about the differences in the way we dress. He showed pictures of the robes he usually wears and he said he is going to wear those to class.

When we arrived at the store I could tell he liked it because he started taking photos. He also said it reminded him of a Western movie. I bought a drink and we sat down at a table and played checkers. There is a similar game in his country which I really think made things more complicated because even though the boards looked similar, the rules are very different. When I sat down he had the pieces on every square and said some were missing so we couldn’t play. I had to tell him the pieces only go on one color of the board, along with all the other rules. Fortunately, the game is really easy so we played a game (I won J) and then sat in the rocking chairs out front. I pointed out the pond and told him that there were alligators in it. He said he had been to Wakulla Springs and there were alligators there too. I told him that alligators are usually not dangerous as long as you don’t bother them.

On the way back he told me a funny story about him and his friends going to Miami and speaking to them in only Spanish. They were really confused. We agreed to meet again sometime next week.

  1. I wish I had a car to drive my conversation partner places! I know a lot of them are stuck within walking distance of campus :/ And I'll have to try to find the place you're talking about, sounds nice.
