Pak TP#9

After our last meeting, my TP and I scheduled a lunch at Mr. Roboto’s.  We ordered some hibachi and he told me that it was his first time that he had Japanese food outside of Brazil.  He also told me that there were a good number of Japanese people that lived in Brazil as well.  He said that about 30 years ago there was a massive wave of Brazilian people who traveled to Japan for work and that after some policy changes, the Japanese government paid Brazilians to leave Japan.  I was surprised at the weird policy change that he told me about, but we kept the conversation going. 

We talked further about how the food was prepared and how the sauces tasted excellent and he asked me if I went back to Thailand relatively often or not.  I told him that I went back every year, but this year I had to stay to finish up classes to be able to graduate in December.  He then asked me “with ‘who’ did I go to Thailand with?”  I responded that I usually went with my parents and travelled alone sometimes, but a quick moment after that, I shared with him my knowledge on ‘who and whom.’  I told him that we use the word ‘who’ when the people receiving the action is referred and to use ‘whom’ when the person that is acting on the object.  I furthered the explanation by presenting him with a link from the Oatmeal website and I also told him that if he used ‘whom,’ the answer would have him in it and if he used ‘who,’ the answer would then have him in it.

We talked a bit more then ended the lunch and then departed.
