Yesterday Maria (the adult, not the little girl, two of my partners have the same name so this can be confusing) and I went to Tropical Smoothie for our last meeting. She had never had a smoothie before and this was a particularly hot day so I thought this would be perfect. I picker her up at her dorm and drove us to the smoothie cafe. When we got there I pointed out the menu to her and tried explaining what a few of the fruits were. She recognized the acai berry (which I was unfamiliar with ) and picked out an acai smoothie. I tried explaining to her what a few of the other fruits were but I had some trouble. I'm pretty sure she has had pomegranate before but she did not know what it was solely from the name on the menu.I tried explaining it as the fruit Jesus eats since I know she is Catholic and they refer to pomegranate a bit in the bible.
We tried each others smoothies and she ended up being really happy with hers. She showed me that she had brought me a gift. Maria brought me a baseball cap, key chain and postcard form Brazil. She also wrote me a short note that was very sweet. Everything that she brought me was so adorable and thoughtful I was stunned. We were supposed to meet up the previous day but she got caught up at the mall so I asked her about that. Maria told me about all of the things she had bought at the mall and said she really liked it.
After we chatted over smoothies for a while I offered to drive her to her ceremony for the end of the course at CIES. Unfortunately, as soon as I went back to my car the battery had died. I had waited outside of Maria's dorm for a while and I think that is what made my battery die. I had to apologize and call AAA. Luckily, we were right off campus so Maria was able to walk to where she had to be and didn't end up being late. I felt bad that I couldn't drive her back but waiting for AAA would have made her late. We exchanged hugs and said goodbye. Before she left the next morning she sent me another message thanking me again and we got to say goodbye once more.
