Matthew TP #2

I met with Leonardo at 3 o'clock in the CIES lounge on Monday. I had asked him to come with specific subjects that he was going over in class that I could help him with. The first major thing he expressed the need to helped with was pronouns. I had planned on using a few websites to get some exercises that we could work on together, but due to technology problems, this was impossible. I did my best trying to come up things off the top of my head but this wasn't very effective. Needless to say, I will be printing things off next time. We spent a large portion of our time on the subject of descriptive essays. I showed him how a basic 5 paragraph essay was organized by writing an example outline for him and having him practice writing his own outline. I also had him take an example essay from his book and point out where the introduction, conclusion, thesis statement etc. were in it. The final thing we worked on was vocabulary. I was able to explain many of the words he asked about but I will be making flashcards next time because I feel that they are one of the most effective ways to learn vocabulary. For homework, I told him to practice writing outlines because I'm going to come with a prompt next week and have him write me an outline for it. I also asked him to look over pronouns some more for I will be coming with a large number of exercises next week and we will be hitting pronouns hard. We will also go over the flashcards, which is something I plan on doing every week.
