Yesterday I met with Maria again. This was only our second time meeting up, we have been having major difficulties meeting up. Today we had trouble even meeting up with each other. Our original plan was to meet up in the lounge at the CIES, but it had been locked. Because Maria doesn't have a phone I had to wait to get a facebook message from her before we could figure out what to do. Her English is pretty broken so I had a very difficult time understanding where she wanted to meet up but we eventually met up outside Swannee.
We decided to go to Pitaria to eat because I had heard that they accepted FSUID credit there. As soon as we got there we discovered that Pitaria only accepts FSUID on older cards that have pin numbers. The whole issue was so confusing that I had to end up paying for her although Maria ended up paying me back. I helped her pick out what to eat and explained the menu items.
After settling down with our food we got to talking. We talked quite a bit about college and how scholarships and paying for school works. I guess that in Brazil all the good colleges are public and don't cost anything to attend, and that the less accredited private schools tend to be the ones that cost money. She was shocked to find out how much debt people usually walk away with.
We also talked a bit about Greek food and Maria really seemed to enjoy it. For next time I'll probably go for ice cream or something that won't cost too much. We are hoping to meet up on Thurs but our schedules don't really line up at all since I am taking 4 classes at the moment and she is in CIES all day. I have already emailed the conversation partner coordinator and hope to figure out a way to squeeze in more meetings ASAP.
