DJ CP #5
Today I met up with Kwang again. I should mention that he is supposed to be a tutee of mine, but he wants to focus on speaking so he is actually my conversation partner. The first thing I asked him was "Did Wayo talk to you about playing videogames at my house?" because she had said she wanted to have me teach her and Kwang how to play Halo. He very politely told me that the last game he had played was pac-man, and that he wouldn't be good at a first-person shooter. I said I understand, and that I'm almost glad because I didn't want him to see my awful apartment.
We talked a lot about the Korean education system. I told him that Wayo told me they go to school for 19 hours a day in highschool and he said it was correct. I told him that I thought it was insane and he told me that Koreans put a lot of emphasis on education. He then said that even though Koreans have the best test scores in the world, many Korean parents want to send their kids to other countries because their kids are so unhappy in Korea. I told him that we have to strike a balance between working hard and having fun, and that is what Americans think they have. Then he told me about r-learning, which stands for robot assisted learning. Apparently there are some preschools in Korea that use robotic assistants to aid the class. The robots sing songs to the kids, talk to them, and can even take their pulse.
Kwang asked me if there were any places to take his child in Tallahasse. I said not really, because the town is mainly for politicians and college kids. I suggested the library, museum, and parks. The we talked a little bit about underage drinking, and how drinking and smoking in America are much less of a problem than they are in other countries.
