Adam TP # 9

I met Bayasgalan again today, once again in Room 409 of Eppes Hall. He showed me a passage he had written for his class. He often struggled with the difference between "does" and "do" and with the difference beteen "he" and "his." I once again ran through a slow, detailed description of what pronouns work when. For example, I gave him examples of pronouns that are possessive, such as "his," "hers," etc. and let him know once again that "his" could not be used in a sentence that should include "he": for example, he went to the beach vs. his went to the beach. Bayasgalan was able to describe the difference back to me but he struggled with this in writing. I also explained the difference between "does" and "do" and gave him example sentences to work with. For example, I gave him examples of sentences that used first person singular or second person singular and asked him which was the correct word form to use. I gave him example sentences where the verb is followed by the letter "s" and example sentences where it is not. He was able to describe the difference to me efficiently, but, again, it appeared he struggled with writing. He also let me know that he had a test tomorrow that would cover simple past, simple present, present continuous, etc. so I wrote examples of sentences on the board and asked him to identify which sentences were which. In general, he seemed to be generally able to provide me with the correct answer, but he still seems to struggle with test taking and writing. However, his explanations demonstrated at least a surface comprehension of the material. I wished him good luck on his test, and we agreed to meet again on Friday afternoon after I meet with one of my other tutees.
